Healthy eating tips for teenagers
Eating healthily can be a challenge with the amount of junk food that surrounds us everywhere we look these days. However eating healthily has many advantages. It helps protect you against disease, prevents you from gaining weight, helps keep your brain healthy and much more. Follow these easy tips to get you on the right track :D
1. Calcium is a very important nutrient for teenagers as it is at this stage in life that your bones develop. Eat lots of servings of calcium rich foods such as milk, yoghurt and cheese. This will prevent against osteoporosis as you get older.
2. Eat at least 3 servings of red meat each week. Red meat is a good source of iron and will prevent against anaemia which is a common condition in teenage girls.
3. Choose wholegrain carbohydrates over white ones. This is because they contain much more fibre and vitamins and they keep you feeling fuller for longer.
4. Aim for your five a day of fruit and vegetables to ensure you are getting all the vitamins you need. Snack on fruit and veg rather than chocolate and crisps to help you on your way to 5 a day.
5. Avoid eating foods high in saturated fat and sugar such as fried foods, chocolate and fizzy drinks. These kind of foods have no nutritional value and they lead to obesity, mood swings and bad skin.
